This one time...at band...

So, for many who know me, I was a percussionist from sixth grade until I graduated high school. No, I was not a drummer, or as Mr. Felt said, a "dummer". I have a colleague at my new job who plays in the St Cloud Municipal Band, and has encouraged me to come and give them a try. I let her know this would not happen until after the wedding was over. I have, however, contacted the conductor, and all percussive instruments are provided. I am on my way this evening to listen to a concert in Barden Park in St Cloud (on the SCSU campus). My friend plays the euphonium (not the baritone). I'm excited at the prospect of getting into something musical again. For some reason, singing in my car or the occasional karoake contest doesn't count.

Ok. Went to the concert. What fun! The band played fun songs. It was Circus night, so the theme of songs was very circus-y...but they played them well. It's not a huge band, but put out some very good sound. I got recruited to run the camera and video the concert - not too hard since I just had to turn it on and pause between performances. I felt bad - the conductor had set the camera to only have an hour of time - and the concert went about an hour and 20 minutes. He said he puts the videos on You Tube, so I'm going to have to check those out as well. I do not know what the schedule for performances is like in the fall, but I may just have to go and give this a try. :) I couldn't tell if they are limited in the percussion area due to number of people, or instruments available. The conductor told me they have a good range, so will have to see.

See Mom - I will do something musical in my life. :)

Oh Cool--I hope you do get involved in a band; you would love it and be a great asset. Joshua informed me the other day that he wants to play the drum. I told him he's also have to learn the xylophone and he thought that was so cool!!
